Film Screening Project

Film Screening Project

As our club was drying out of money, Leo Ang Wee Cheng called an urgent BOD meeting and suggested to hold a Film Screening Project. On that time, Harry Potter VI Half Blood Prince was our option. As we had everything settled, the movie was moved to the following year. It was to far off as we need money desperate for projects. So we choose James Bond 007 Quantum of Solace. Leo President Ang Wee Cheng was the Organizing Chairperson for this event. For a few days, we started selling but it was quite difficult as people refuse to buy as they had a perspective of buying at the counter for the cheapest price. So, Leo Ang Wee Cheng started sending advertisements and flyers to outsiders and Lions clubs. We had a great response and we continued selling. Not only that, our club was split to a few teams and each took turn to sell the tickets at Star Cineplex.
On that day itself, there were still a lot of tickets left. Leo Ang Wee Cheng called a few members to come to Star Cineplex and organized the sitting plan. At the last moment, Leo Ang Wee Cheng called the members to sell the ticket at a cheaper price as it is better to sell them at a cheaper price than laying them untouch. Surprisingly, many people bought our tickets. As the movie was going to start, Leos quickly stormed into the Cineplex and organized the sitting plan. As the people came in, it was almost full. It was really a sign of relief.

For this project, we had gained a profit of RM 3140 (approximate). This money will be put into our project funds to hold better, bigger projects in the future.

Lion Nursing Home Sales (SMK Batu Lintang)

Lion Nursing Home Sales (SMK Batu Lintang)

On the 9th of November 2008 (Sunday), our club participated the Lions Nursing Home Sales which held at Lion Nursing Home. Before the sales, our club held a few meetings to plan what to sell on 9th of November. During the meeting, we had chosen Sia Pin Pheng the Secretary of SMK Batu Lintang to become the Organizing Chairperson of this activity, and we had decided to sell Ice-cream during the sales to raise as much funds as possible. Furthermore, we all agreed to join stall with Leo Club of Swinburne.
During our meeting, we came out with many different ideas that what we going to sell on the Sales day and at last we had all decided to sell Ice-cream on the sales day. On that day, there were 6 Leos of SMK Batu Lintang participated on the sales and there was none of our Leo bring brought camera, so there was no photo taken on that day. All Leos arrived Lion Nursing Home at 7am; Leos had prepared everything before the sales start, and Leos of SMK Batu Lintang had also help Swinburne Leos to arrange the goods to sell on the stall, they sold Chicken Rice and some Drinking Cup. There were other stall beside our stall, there were Hong Leong Bank stall, SMK St.Joseph, SM Lodge and many other club.
All funds were collected and donated to Lion Nursing Home. The total amount of the funds that collected together with Swinburne Leo Club was RM1200 and all the funds are donated to Lion Nursing Home. The sales ended around 1pm.

Co-curricular Day (SMK Batu Lintang)

Co-curricular Day (SMK Batu Lintang)

On the 3rd of November, our club participated in a school club’s competition held in school. It was a day that all clubs will compete in either two sections: fund-raising or promoting. For the fund-raising competition, clubs will have to raise as much funds to win a prize of RM500. Judgments were not only on the money but also attracting skills and teamwork. As for the promoting side, clubs will be given space to promote and introduce their respective clubs. Judging will be also given in promoting skills and materials.
During our general membership meeting, all the Leos wanted to join both competitions as we could promote our club and increase membership growth the following year, and raise funds to hold bigger, successful projects the following year. The Organizing Chairperson for the event was Leo President Ang Wee Cheng with the help of a few leaders. We planned for a few weeks to have everything settled. Furthermore, we split the jobs also so everything will be organized when the day comes. For the promoting section, we decided to display photos and introduce our club’s history. We also display the James Bond trailer as our club will be selling the tickets as our Major Fund-raising Project. For the fund-raising competition, we decided to sell tauhu hua, gui ling gau and ice-cream. We located our sources for the items and got everything ready for the day itself.
On that day, all Leos came early to set up their stalls/sections. As the judging began, Leos direct the judges’ way around our promoting ground as Leo Ang Wee Cheng promoted and explained about Leo Club. He also orientated when there were outsiders or students who were interested in knowing Leo Club. Leo Ang Wee Cheng also asked Leo Aaron to dress up as a clown (he works for an Entertaining Company) and attract people to our promoting ground. Also, he sold balloons and gained some profit from there for the club.

As for the sales, all the items were sold. Leos were able to persuade pass-byes to buy their goods. It was indeed a success.

Although our club rose the most funds (approximated RM700), we still didn’t win. However, it was indeed a great experience for all the members as they had chance to organize events such as this. Our club also gave the school 10 percent of our profit for the poor students and disabled students. Approximately 150 students had benefited from this event.
